Chypre.
A genre. A gesture. A revolution.
The term chypre (French for “Cyprus”) dates back to antiquity, when perfumed resins, herbs, and citrus oils were traded across the Mediterranean. But it was in 1917 that the structure we now recognize as "Chypre" was crystallized by François Coty—a bold accord built on the radiant bitterness of bergamot, the velvet earthiness of oakmoss, and the warm, ambery richness of labdanum. It was new, it was daring, and it reshaped the trajectory of modern perfumery.
This composition pays homage to that turning point in olfactory history—reviving the spirit of the original Chypre de Coty, yet expanding its complexity through an opulent palette of naturals rarely seen today.
At the top, sunlit Calabrian bergamot, zesty citron, and ripe peach evoke the sparkling freshness of the Mediterranean, gently spiced with rare Nutmeg CO₂ and softened by the tender bloom of orange blossom absolute.
The heart is a floral tapestry—Jasmine Sambac, Moroccan rose, and carnation absolute form a sensual triad, while the green airiness of lilac and the honeyed richness of Tunisian neroli interlace with Indonesian patchouli, lending depth and texture.
The base is where the true soul of a chypre resides: a mossy bed of authentic oakmoss absolute, draped in Portuguese labdanum resin, black spruce absolute, and the dusky mystery of styrax. A final touch of civet and musk recalls the animalic nuance of early 20th-century masterpieces—untamed, complex, unforgettable.
This is not a reinterpretation. It is a revival. A return to perfumery’s golden roots—crafted with reverence, composed with integrity, and made for those who long for the elegance of what once was… and what can be again.
